Let me introduce myself
I’m Laura Jane Johnson, a freelance writer with more than 15 years experience across marketing, communications, PR, business development, journalism and copywriting. I’m based near Birmingham in the UK.
After graduating from the University of Bath with a BSc (Hons) Business Administration in 2002, I started my career in marketing, taking on roles in internal communications for a public sector organisation, marketing for an international commercial property company and business development and bid management for a large corporate law firm. I now provide writing support to a wide range of clients from large retail and leisure brands, to professional services firms, to tech start-ups.
I’ve worked on new product launches, blog strategies, email marketing, website refreshes, devised PR campaigns, driven thought leadership projects, delivered internal communications plans and refreshed brands by giving them a completely new tone of voice. I’ve composed press releases, written awards submissions that led to trophies, produced winning pitches, devised straplines, developed staff magazines and written editorial and features about everything from the impact of poor sanitation on female education in the developing world, to whether air kissing is ever appropriate in an office environment. I’ve even written scripts for animations and been a roving reporter at corporate events.
All these things require one thing: a way with words. And this is what I’m known for.
My expertise covers:
- creating engaging, informative, easy-to-read content for print and online
- blog-writing: from practical, ‘how to’ posts, to thought leadership, to opinion-led discussion articles
- researching and writing in-depth features for online and print publications
- SEO and website content
- creating email and social media campaigns
